Insurance for International Guest Researchers

Guest researchers who are not employed by the University of Copenhagen must take out a liability insurance before coming to the university as they will not be covered by the self-insurance of the University of Copenhagen. If they do damage and do not have insurance, they will have to cover for the damages themselves. If they cannot afford to pay for the damages, the claimant will have to cover the damages. If the claimant is the University of Copenhagen, then the self-insurance of the university will apply.

Guest researchers are covered by the industrial injury insurance whether they are employed by the university or not.

Health card

(formerly the national health service medical card)

When the Danish Health Act (Sundhedsloven) entered into force on 1 January 2007, the waiting time provisions were abolished. Persons moving to Denmark on 1 January 2007 or later do no longer have to wait for six weeks to be entitled to services under the Danish Health Act.

All persons residing in Denmark are entitled to services under the Danish Health Act immediately upon taking up residence. In this context, “residence” means that the person in question meets the conditions set out in the Danish Act on the Civil Registration System (CPR-loven) for registration at the National Registration Office.
