Growth vitamins for the Danish business sector
Under this heading and a picture of LIFE student Anna-Sarah Eyrich, the article on the front page of the business section of the Danish Daily Berlingske ( Saturday 22 Oct.2011) goes on to say that international students such as Anna-Sarah Eyrich from Canada [currently studying at LIFE ] represent growth and potential for Danish society. So far, the many international students at Danish universities have only had six months to gain a foothold on the Danish labour market, but Minister for Education, Morten Østergaard would like to extend the green-card period to three years after graduation. The Danish business sector is very pleased that the government wants to make it easier to recruit well-educated internationals and to improve conditions for them while they are in Denmark.
The theme from the front page of the business section is further explored on pages 4 and 5 of the section including an article with the title' Denmark is a hit among international students’.
This article is based on a new International Student Barometer survey that shows that international students are generally very satisfied with studying in Denmark but that they would like to see better integration with Danish students, more career opportunities, and easier access to the Danish labour market.
In the article, Ann Sarah Eyrich, a student of the Agris Mundus programme at LIFE, is quoted as saying:’ Danmark is an incredible place and the Danes are extremely friendly. I am attracted to living and working in a country with such a large economic equality. But I do not speak the language and that, I fear, will be a problem because most jobs require good Danish’. But she adds that she may consider taking an extra Danish course over the winter.
