The Dean’s column

We are facing a new and great challenge at LIFE as well as at the three other so-called wet faculties at University of Copenhagen. In my mail on Monday, I briefly explained our plans to merge four faculties into two. A merger process which quite understandably has stirred thoughts in many students and staff. Because how will these changes affect us?

Already Tuesday many of us gathered for the open meeting. Quite understandably, the room - LIFE’s largest auditorium - was completely full. Nevertheless, I know that not everybody were able to attend due to the short notice. We chose to hold the meeting quickly as we in Management felt that it was important quickly to explain the background, objects, etc . The open meeting was video taped, so if you were not able to attend, you will be able to see what was said at KUnet > topic: New faculties (link to film)

How the changes will affect the different areas at LIFE has not been clarified yet. In the coming days and weeks we will be working on drawing up a final decision-making basis for the Board. To keep you up to speed on developments as they occur, a common topic site has been established at KUnet where I and the other members of management will answer the general questions which we are able to answer. If you write to eLIFE, SCIENCEnyt or directly at KUnet, we will therefore try to answer as quickly as possible.

Best regards
