Inaugural lecture by affiliated professor Jørgen E. Olesen on 14 March 2012 at 14:00
Jørgen E. Olesen has been appointed affiliated professor at Faculty of Science. His research focusses on agriculture and climate change.
Title of the inaugural lecture: Sustainable use of natural resources
Agriculture is still at the backbone of global society by providing essential ecosystem goods and services, not least food, feed, fiber and fuels. The growing global wealth at the same time increases focus on services such as clean air and water as well as biodiversity preservation. This is challenging existing paradigms in agriculture, which for decades have mostly focused on increasing productivity through managing external inputs. Solving global (and local) challenges involve development of new highly productive systems that rely much less on external inputs and which retain and recycle nutrients and ensure preservation of ecosystem carbon stocks. This calls for interdisciplinary research and for much better integration between biotechnology, agronomy, soil science, engineering and social sciences.
The inaugural lecture takes place at the Faculty of Science in Festauditoriet, Bülowsvej 17, Frederiksberg on Wednesday 14 March at 14 hrs. The lecture is followed by a reception - if you want to join the reception, please notify before 7 March.
