Knowledge Sharing by Balloon - 22.05.2008
1500 balloons with unusual prizes will be sent up from Frederiksberg Campus at 13:00 on 23 May. In this way, knowledge from the Faculty of Life Sciences will be shared with the rest of the citizens of Copenhagen
On occasion of the 150th anniversary of Frederiksberg Campus, the Faculty of Life Sciences will be celebrating on 23 May, and the 1500 balloons will be sent up as part of the celebrations. If you are lucky enough to catch one of the special balloons that have prize vouchers inside, you win one of the many “knowledge-sharing” prizes such as a personal consultation with one of Denmark´s best nutritional scientists, a chance to attend a veterinary autopsy or to work in one of the gastromolecular kitchens and to cook a so-called deep-sea chicken.
The prizes are provided by the 1800 employees and 3,500 students at Frederiksberg Campus who are in this way literally sharing knowledge with the citizens of Frederiksberg and Copenhagen. By catching one of the prize balloons, the lucky winners will get a chance to gain knowledge about humans, animals and nature and the practical research that is being conducted at Frederiksberg Campus with the aim of creating a sustainable future.

When Frederiksberg Campus was established in 1858, the objective of the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, as it was then called, was to “raise agriculture in Denmark to a higher level” through research, innovation and education and thereby to solve the most serious problems of that time, such as malnutrition, cattle plague and problems with hygiene.
Today the challenges are different. But as Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen, we still address the important issues of the day, including obesity, molecular gastronomy, stem cells and sustainable biofuel. The ambition also remains the same: to identify the most important challenges to society – and to meet them and thereby to create a sustainable future for all of us.
