New University Hospital will benefit animals all over Scandinavia - 15.05.2008
On 26 May, Denmark, represented by a member of the Royal Family, officially opens a new state-of-the-art University Hospital for Large Animals.
The brand new university hospital, which forms part of the Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen, means that in future, students of veterinary science in Denmark will have top-class educational facilities. Also, Denmark will be even more interesting as a country with leading research in animal diseases, health and welfare.
The design and construction of stables, examining rooms and operating theatres are based on the latest knowledge about animal well-being and welfare. Even the inflow of light has been designed to have a calming effect on animals, says Clinical Manager of the University Hospital, Susanne Nautrup Olsen.
Dean at the Faculty of Life Sciences, Per Holten-Andersen, is also very pleased with the new facilities:
-The university hospital provides the ideal setting for carrying out world leading application-oriented research while at the same time training the veterinary surgeons of the future in the best possible surroundings, he says.
