New Nordic Diet Hits the US - 01.11.2010
Co-owner of the world’s best restaurant Noma, Danish Chef Claus Meyer, and leading obesity scientist, Arne Astrup from LIFE- Faculty of Life Sciences were on CBS 5 News during a visit to San Francisco to present the New Nordic Diet.
Chef Claus Meyer and obesity scientist Arne Astrup were in San Francisco as part the five-day Danish Health CareVan in Silicon Valley, starting on October 24, 2010.
The reason for their US visit is to promote the so-called New Nordic Diet, a new way of preparing tasty, accessible food with significant health benefits.

The broader goal of the CareVan is to promote Danish knowledge in the field of healthcare in the US and to promote cooperation with American partners. The five-day promotion tour was also attended by the Danish Minister of Health, Mr Bertel Haarder.
Nordic = healthy
The New Nordic Diet grew out of a desire to re-introduce local, seasonal Scandinavian ingredients and develop a cuisine that could pose a challenge to the original Mediterranean cuisine’s status as being healthy, while once and for all put to rest the opposition between “great food” and “health.”
Lean wild game and fish, free-range lamb, cold climate vegetables, native berries, and whole grains such as rye, barley, and oats, are major ingredients in the New Nordic Diet, which has created a worldwide buzz with nutritionists as well as gourmets.
The nutritional basis of the diet was established in “Diogenes”, a much anticipated Pan-European dietary intervention study to be published in New England Journal of Medicine this fall.
The study is the most comprehensive of its kind ever undertaken and includes 1500 people in eight European centers, who have followed the 12 months dietary intervention program resulting in significant, lasting weight loss.
