First Contact - the buddy programme for international students at LIFE

What is the First Contact program?

Every semester many new international students from all over the world arrive to study at the Faculty of life Sciences (LIFE). To make sure that they feel welcome and get settled at our faculty and in Copenhagen, the Secretariat for Internationalisation and Developing Collaboration (SIU) offer them the opportunity to sign up for a Danish First Contact.

You can read more about what being a First Contact involves by following this link!

During the semester First Contact arrange a variety of social and cultural events like a weekend trip (similar to the Danish “rustur”), trip to Carlsberg, Easter/Christmas-lunch etc. You can see the event program for the current semester in the left hand menu.

International students leaving LIFE often mention First Contact as one of the

best things about their stay at the faculty and the First Contact program is therefore important when it comes to profiling LIFE internationally as a university worth attending.

Why become a First Contact?

Because it’s a lot of fun! As part of the international group at LIFE you will get to know people from all over the world and learn about their home countries and cultures.

Furthermore you will get to know the other First Contacts, who come from all the different fields of studies at LIFE.

If you are planning to study abroad, First Contact is your chance to get

first-hand information about our partner universities and to dust off your language skills. Many of our partner universities do not offer a program similar to First Contact so knowing someone at your future university might come in handy!

How can you become one of the First Contacts?

All you have to do is send an email to the First Contact Coordinators at:

If you have any special wishes regarding nationality, gender etc. of your international student we will do our best to fulfill them.

Prior to the beginning of the semester, there will be an “Information & Get-together” evening for old and new First Contacts. The next information meeting will be announced on ‘Sladderspalten’.
