Accommodation abroad

Sometimes your host university will help you find accommodation; this depends on the guidelines of the partnership agreement which you are covered by:

  • If you are an Erasmus or NOVA student, your host university will usually find accommodation for you. You may be offered accommodation on or off campus, or possibly a room with a private landlord – you will hear more after admission.
  • In the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand the host university will usually help you find accommodation – you will hear more after admission.
  • If you travel independently, i.e. to a university which does not have a partnership agreement with the Faculty of Life Sciences, you must find accommodation yourself. The university in question may be able to help you with contacts. Otherwise, try the Internet.
  • If you would like to know where other students have studied abroad, student testimonials in Danish are available at KU's website. Reading student testimonials can be beneficial in terms of both serving as inspirational as to where to go, how to prepare yourself, as well as being an excellent opportunity for students to share knowledge about academic, social and cultural differences.

Your home in Denmark

When you go abroad to study, you may want to sublet your flat or room in Denmark to one of the foreign exchange students who come to the Faculty of Life Sciences. This is a great help for the Faculty of Life Sciences, and if you are interested in doing so, please contact the Faculty of Life Sciences housing coordinator

National Registration Office

When going abroad to study, you must report your new address to the National Registration Office in your municipality of residence. The relevant form can be downloaded from the Internet, but must be submitted by ordinary post.

When going to another Nordic country, your municipality of residence will issue a set of “Internordiske Flyttepapirer” (Internordic relocation certificate) which must be submitted to the local authorities in the country to which you are travelling.

If you are going for less than 6 months, you may remain registered as resident in Denmark. However, for this to be possible, you must have full access to your accommodation in Denmark, i.e. you cannot sublet your room or flat. You must apply to the National Registration Office if you would like to remain registered as resident in Denmark.
