Two initial questions

There are two question we would like you to consider before you apply for a PhD position and admission to The Graduate School at the Faculty of Life Sciences (LIFE):

 

1. Do you have the qualification necessary to be admitted to the PhD programme at LIFE?
2. What types of scholarship are open to you?

 

1) Do you have the qualification necessary to be admitted to the PhD programme at LIFE?

To be admitted to the PhD programme at LIFE, you must have a strong and relevant academic background as well as good or even excellent English skills. More about admission requirements.

 

2) What types of Scholarship are open to you?

 

PhD scholarhips fall into four categories:

 

1. Ordinary LIFE Scholarships are open to any research topic within the scope of the LIFE faculty. In other words, you are free to design your own research project as long as you find a supervisor who will accept you as a PhD student.
2. Strategic scholarships are predefined projects with a title and a project description by the main supervisor. Students with this type of scholarship will most likely perform their research in close collaboration with the industry or another research institution in Denmark. Competition is tough but often the position requires a student with special skills, which can be a great advantage for you.
3. Industrial PhD programme. An industrial PhD is a company-focused PhD project. The company employs the Phd student, pays the student salary and has the authority to define the project topic.
4. Self financing is for students who might have received funding from their own government, a company, their current employer or other fellowship schemes. If you obtain funding in this way, we recommend that you make an application for admission based on a single research topic. You must be able to document that you have funding for living expenses, tuition fee and bench fee (financial guidelines). Finally, you need to find a supervisor who will accept you as a PhD student.   

Ordinary and strategic scholarships are advertised here. PhD positions through the industrial Phd programme or the self-finance program are not advertised at LIFE - it is up to you to get in contact the organisation from whom you wish to get funding.
