Industrial PhD

Early in the morning at the experimental farm

The Industrial PhD Programme

An Industrial PhD project is a company-focused PhD project. The project is conducted in cooperation between a private company, an Industrial PhD student and a university.

The student is employed and paid by the private company. The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation pays subsidy to both the company and the university. You can learn more about the programme at the agency website

The close collegial collaboration arising between the company and the university is a rather unique advantage for the Industrial PhD cooperation.
– Søren Balling Engelsen, professor, supervisor at LIFE

For companies

If you

  • already have a research project suited for an Industrial PhD project
  • are interested in cooperating on an Industrial PhD research project

LIFE’s Business Affairs can help you get in contact with potential candidates and supervisors at LIFE. Together you must define and describe a specific research project and you must apply for approval at the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.

The close cooperation between the PhD student and the company means that it is necessary to relate to what the research can be used for."
Majbritt Ravn Hufeldt, Industrial PhD student at LIFE

For students

To get started, it is a good idea to consider which specific areas or projects you will be interested in. On the basis of this, you need to find a supervisor and talk to him/her about the opportunities for participating in the Industrial PhD Programme. Please contact LIFE’s Business Affairs for further help.

In the guidelines for the Industrial PhD programme you can read about the specific requirements for the programme.
