Elite research areas

The specialised areas where LIFE is particular strong include:

The elite research areas:

  • Bioimaging: Advanced supermicroscopy enabling researchers

to look into living cells and monitor the development of both

healthy and diseased cells in order to gain new knowledge about

the functions and properties of the individual cell components.

Bioimaging is an important tool within, for example, plant biotechnology,

cancer research, stem cell research, animal reproduction,

diabetes research, food quality and synthetic biology.

  • Food quality, food safety and zoonoses: Research into how we can produce safe, high-quality food.

  • Plant biosystems:  Research into plant biosystems which helps

us understand the interaction between plants, climate and soil factors.

The objective is, among other things, to create

    sustainable food production.

  • Water resources in biological production:  Research into water

resources and the environment to solve global challenges in

respect of water shortages and water pollution.

  • Obesity and appetite regulation Research which will contribute

to increased knowledge about the development of obesity and

on fighting obesity to strengthen public health.

  • Chemometrics, biostatistics and multivariate data analysis:
Advanced analysis of large amounts of complex data, e.g. an analysis of constituents in food or medicine.
  • Plant biotechnology: Research into how we get plants to produce

food, medicine and biomass for energy in a sustainable manner.

  • Animal health and animal models: Research into animal diseases

with a view to understanding why diseases such as cancer,

diabetes and cardiovascular diseases occur and how they may be

treated – for the benefit of both animals and people.
